Sam and Becky shared a love of cooking that began when Sam was in college, sharing an apartment with roommates and growing weary of fast food and boxed mac and cheese meals, occasionally adding a can of tuna. He reached for a pad and pen and called his mother, Ann Elizabeth Higgins, renowned throughout Waxahachie for her culinary prowess. "Mother," he said, "I need some of your quick recipes that I can whip up for myself and my roommates," and she readily obliged. Sam cooked ever since.
Becky learned to love preparing good food as a child at her grandmother’s elbow as she watched her throwing handfuls of ingredients in a large bowl and turning out the best biscuits and cornbread she ever ate.
After restoring the historic 1854 house and turning the old dairy out buildings into guest rooms we opened the Chuckwagon Inn in 2000 and have enjoyed sharing our great family recipes at breakfasts and some of our humorous experiences with our guests. We love serving made from scratch hot breakfasts every morning. For our guests who have special dietary needs, we are happy to accommodate you.
